Speed Up Your Cooking Using Pressure Cooker

Speed Up Your Cooking Using Pressure Cooker

It’s a very common technique of Speed Up Your Cooking Using Pressure Cooker that we can boost the speed of cooking by using a pressure cooker. It is much quicker than the speed of the normal cooking method. But we can get the same result of faster cooking by using only a fraction of the energy that we use in a normal pressure cooker by applying some special techniques. These are illustrated briefly here and also stated the comparative differences between the normal cooking method and cooking with a pressure cooker. There are also some valuable discussions and explanations of the reasons why people should be motivated to use the pressure cookers over normal cooking.

This article contains the following comparative information:

  • Different temperature of cooking:

  1. Slow cooker 160-180°F
  2. Oven braised 200°F
  3. Pressure cooker 250°F
  • Some very common cooking times:

  1. Beef Stew: Slow cooker needs 360 minutes, oven braised needs 165 minutes (including time to reach and also release the pressure), and finally pressure cookers need 40 minutes (including 15 minutes used to preheat the oven).
  2. Shredded Pork: Slow Cooker 480 minutes, Oven Braise 120 minutes and Pressure Cooker 60 minutes.
  3. Beef Roast & Potatoes: Slow Cooker 480 minutes, Oven Braise 285 minutes and Pressure Cooker 45 minutes.
  4. White Beans (soaked): Slow Cooker 360 minutes, Oven Braise 75 minutes and Pressure Cooker 25 minutes.

Pressure cooking is faster than other cooking methods because:

  1. The heating of pressure cooking is higher than normal cooking method. The boiling point for the pressure cooker is 243-250°F (equal 121°C) whereas for conventional cooking it is only 212°F (equals 100°C).
  2. Lead is always sealed to be shut, and it results in locking the steam and also pushing the air out of the pressure cooker.
  3. The inner environment is completely oxygen free.
  4. Pressure which is built due to steam results in the rise of internal pressure as well.
  5. Food is cooked at a very high temperature.
  6. No need of hot oven in this method.
  7. There are no all day long odors in the pressure cooker.
  • Side by side comparison of slow cooker (SC), oven braised (OB) and electric pressure cooker (PC) are stated in the following:
  1. Last minute cooking: PC
  2. Killing bacteria: PC
  3. Saving of energy: PC
  4. Using as a regular pot: OB, PC
  5. Fall-apart meal: SC, OB, PC
  6. Set it then forget it: SC, OB, PC
  • Pressure cooker is used to save energy:

    • The energy required cooking roast, potatoes, and others: Slow Cooker 1080Wh; Electric Oven 3130Wh; Pressure Cooker 315Wh.
    • Energy is used during the cooking time after 10 minutes intervals.
    • Calculations made with the following data: Slow Cooker 6qt, 240 watts is termed as “high” setting/ 120watts termed as “low“ – 60min at “high” & 420min “low” (no thermostat cycling); Electric Oven operates at 2400watts – 10min pre-heating at maximum watt & 260min (25% cycling on and off); Electric Pressure Cooker 6qt, 1000 watts -10min maximum heat to pressure & 35 min cycling (25% cycling on and off).
    • Pressure cookers also have some other benefits:
  1. No irritating odor problem around the house during cooking.
  2. Kills the bacteria due to excess heating that handle food-borne illness.
  3. No extra need of pan to brown meat and sauté vegetables.
  4. The pressure cooker can cook the frozen meat.

Opening Methods of Pressure Cooker

Opening Methods of Pressure Cooker

Opening Methods of Pressure Cooker

There are so many ways of opening a pressure cooker and each of these ways has its individual effects, criteria, advantages, and disadvantages. Here we are going to illustrate the methods of the opening of a pressure cooker so that the beginners of using pressure cooker will get benefited and also we will discuss all criteria of different opportunities so that they will be able to sharpen and enlarge their skills as well.

Methods of choosing the opening skills

  • Even when the food isn’t being cooked, it’s so

When there are a continuous building and release of the pressure inside the pressure cooker, the temperature also increases. It goes near or above of the boiling point. It means the food has already been starting to be cooked though it doesn’t seem to be actual. This suits the best for different items like meats, fishes, desserts, and legumes. It is not suitable for the vegetables as they might be melted at such temperature. We should select some earliest release methods for plants. But robust foods like meats, fishes will get the benefit of opening a larger period.

  • The more movement with the faster release

The speed of the liberation of the pressure from the pressure cooker is proportionally related to the amount of movement inside the pressure cooker. The high speed of weight gives more movement of the food. The bubbles of the boil are suppressed by the equilibrium, but when the high pressure gets released this balance is broken, and consequently, the bubbles begin to break to the surface again. Faster release of the pressure will also result in the violent and quicker release of the bubbles. It will also forcefully throw some bits of food as well as foam outside of the lid. On the other hand, in slow opening condition, the bubbles rise in a very slow and lazy manner. We use the slowest opening method to maintain the least possible movement for the cooking of foods where we need to keep the whole item (example-bean) or for foods that we need to keep clear.

  • The faster evaporation for the hotter foods

The differential temperature between the temperature of the food that has come out from the pressure cooker and the standard temperature of the environment can make some effects on the speed of evaporation. The hottest food will be provided an accelerated evaporation through the relatively faster opening. On the contrary, the slower method of opening will give the foods the chance to be cooled down and the food’s liquid and juice will evaporate at the rate of the conventional boiling of water. So the foods that we need to keep juicy for the original taste (like the roast), there we use slower method for the opening. Again recipes where there is some need of reduction after the pressure cooking, we use the faster method.

Opening methods of pressure cooker

There are so many methods of the opening of pressure cookers according to the time of their operation. They add so many diversities in the field of operation of a pressure cooker as well. This classification starts with the fastest and ends with the slowest. Some methods are not to be suggested to use anymore, some are precise for older cookers but shouldn’t be used for the modern pressure cookers that are made with stainless steel.

  1. Average method of pressure release

This method has some certain advantages as it is fast, both automatic and manual. This method operates only in 2 or 3 minutes, and that’s why known as the fastest method of opening. We use the different machines for the purpose of pressure release. We normally use valve as the pressure releasing mechanism. We also use another mechanism like a button, a lever, push, etc. This method is the best suited for the quick cooking of foods and vegetables. But it’s can’t be suitable for the heavy or jiggle type pressure cooker. The recommended type of opening for the heavy type pressure cooker is a Natural method of release where we use a simple fork tine to lift up the weight and then release the pressure out of the surface.

  1. Slow, normal way of pressure release

This method is that much faster method for the opening of a pressure cooker that normally needs 5 to 10 minutes. This time span solely depends upon the structural design of the pressure cookers. It is kind of similar method to the normal opening method as it also uses the valve or other opening mechanism but, in this case, the release of pressure should be slowed down. If the pressure release is only allowed by the valve in full throttle, then it should be released by the cook in a very short time of span. If foam also comes out from the pressure cooker along with the steam, the valve will be closed just for 10 minutes until the next short burst or next release.

  1. 10-minute natural method of pressure release

This process of opening is not only slower but also a little bit delicate. It can take 10 or even 15 minutes to open and release the pressure, and this depends on the amount of remaining pressure in the container. The basic of this method is this method allows the pressure to be released for 10 minutes naturally. If there is still some amount of pressure to be released off, then that will be released using the slow, normal method of opening. If there comes such a case that the pressure is out less than 10 minutes, then the lid should be opened as well, and the cooker is left undisturbed for the full time of span of 10 minutes. This method is suitable mostly for the cooking of grains that need to be cooked by the steam of the cooker, not by any additional heat.

  1. Natural method of pressure release

This method is the slowest among all types of pressure cookers. It is also the most delicate pressure release method among all types. This method needs from 10 to 30 minutes of time to release the pressure. This time depends upon the type of pressure cooker (their structural design, material, etc.) and the fill level. For example, the electric type pressure cooker needs the longer time of opening due to their thermal type construction. Again, the fuller pressure cooker where the fill level is complete will also take the longest time to be opened. When the heat is turned off, the natural release makes the release the pressure from the cooker slower. Foods which need to expand like fruits, grains, and legumes, this method of opening is recommended to use mostly for those types of foods because it helps to prevent the bits of foods or the foams from coming out of the pressure cooker. This method is also suitable for the foods that need to be cooled down slowly to constrict the early evaporation of their moistness. Examples of such foods are meats and desserts.

Not recommended opening methods

There are some methods of an opening which is problematic and they are suggested not to use anymore. They have been out of fashion because the materials with which they are being built up are no more popular nowadays.

  1. Cold water quick method of pressure release

This method normally carries a stove from top of the pressure cooker to the sink situated at the below part and then turns on the water tap which drizzles onto the lid of the pressure cooker. Thus the pressure of the cooker is released without wetting the safety valves. This method is not anymore suggested for some definite reasons. The path from the stove to the sink might fill with different obstacles like kids, pets etc. There is a probability that water might block the valves of the pressure cooker and causes the reverse suction. It also might be the cause of bending and ultimately damage the metal of the cooker. Sometimes there might be a problem of proper detection by the safety systems which might lead to an eruption in the time of cooking some super-heated foods. Nowadays, people are suggested to use normal pressure release method instead of using cold-water quick release.

  1. Base immersion method of pressure release

In this method of pressure release, there is also a stove top of the pressure cooker like the cold water quick pressure release method to a sink or similar basin. Then they are partially filled with cold water. This method is also not recommended as it has also some drawbacks. Sometimes the pressure cooker might be slipped from the hand of the chef and can also damage both the basin and cooker as well. The thermal shock can also affect the metal body covering of the pressure cooker and separate the aluminum base of the pressure cooker. The production of this release method had been postponed more than twenty years ago. But still, there are some chefs who had learned to cook from some of their previous generation who use this method of pressure release though it is not that much popular worldwide. If there is any recipe that needs “Base Immersion” pressure release can alternately also uses normal pressure release method instead.

Five Tips for Cooking Some Delicious Items with Rice and Grains

Five Tips for Cooking Some Delicious Items with Rice and Grains

In Pressure Cooker

If we use the pressure cooker, we can make a quick work of cooking of the tight rice grains and can also cook perfectly steamed rice as well. But if we go for some wrong moves, it will be turned into some worse condition. So it’s necessary to make ourselves known about the do’s and don’t regard cooking rice grain with the help of a pressure cooker and those need to be maintained.

Before cooking you should check up on the timing and ratio:

At the time of cooking, we need to keep in our mind that each grain has its requirement of liquid that helps to rehydrate. We can take an example of soaked rice that just needs one cup of water in one bowl of rice, whereas steel-cut oats need three cups. From the pressure cooking time chart, we can easily decide about the timing and liquid given for the purpose of cooking.

Don’t fill up the pressure cooker with water only:

We should not fill the pressure cooker up more than halfway with water and grains. The more water we will use, the more time will be needed to complete this overall cooking process. So it will be comfortable and also wise not to use water above the half level of the pressure cooker.

Make it fattened to avoid foaming up:

We can add some fatty foods while cooking in any of our recipes. For examples of fatty foods, we can add butter, sugar or oil. These food items help us to reduce the amount of foam during the cooking of rice grains. Consequently, it also contributes to maintaining some clean environment for food. But we should also keep in mind that the fat items we are going to add to rice grain, it should also match with the recipe.

Be stable and don’t rush:

It is convenient that the pressure cooker should not be opened below 10 minutes. If it is opened after 10 minutes, then we can hope to have a perfect cooking. Among this time, 5 minutes are used for small pressure cooking. For this type of cooking, only the residual heat and internal energy of the pressure cooker is used. It is one of the most useful and delicate methods of the pressure opening. It operates without any generation of foam and starch also does not come outside of the valve spraying when we open the cooker.

Do heat it properly for some problematic pressure cookers:

Some pressure cookers might have some problem of looking like they might clatter, wriggle and also breathe loudly for some internal defects. If there is such of these problems, we should take some individual steps. We can cook them in a heat-proof container that is placed inside the pressure cooker. This type of equipment for heating is known as ‘Bain Marie’. If we use such procedures for cooking grain or rice, then it will be more delicate using the same cooking times and keeping the grain to liquid ratios constant.

Stove Pressure Cooker Recipes Vs Electric Pressure Cooker Recipes

Stove Pressure Cooker Recipes Vs Electric Pressure Cooker RecipesStove-top-vs-Electric-Pressure-Cooker

There is a myth like specific recipes can only be made by either an electric pressure cooker or a stove top. You have to keep in mind that in general both of them are pressure cookers. So it is possible to use stove top recipes to cook in an electric pressure cooker. For your help, a few instructions are “transfer” in details so that you can you use stove top recipes to prepare by using a pressure cooker.

·         Add 1 cup of liquid·         Add your pressure cooker’s minimum liquid

More fluid is needed by the pressure cooker to cook than the amount is required by the stovetop pressure cooker. It is necessary and crucial to know how much water is needed by your electric pressure cooker to reach the required pressure. Usually, one or a half cup of water is needed by the pressure cooker to do so. But you must check you manually so you can be sure about it. Many recipes available on the websites are for both types of a cooker, and they sometimes don’t distinct the amount of extra water needed for the electric pressure cooker. Other recipes always mention the additional amount necessary for the electric pressure cooker.
·         in the pre-heated pressure cooker·         sauté·         reduce·         bring to a boil

For the most electric pressure cooker available in the market, there is either a “sauté” or “brown” button. If you push that it will preheat the cooker or can be used for boiling water. If the pressure cooker does not have the specific button, then you need to read the manual. You will find that you can heat the pressure cooker without using the lead and the base will heat in this way. There is nothing to worry because the cooker will never reach the weight without the lead.If the pressure cooker has a dial setting, then you need to turn the dial for maximum minutes when you are reducing or sauteing
·         Close and lock the lid Almost all the pressure cookers that are electric will close their lead automatically unless something is mentioned in the manual. If written then you need to twist the lead. Then you can check to make sure the valve is working correctly or not. In these kinds of points, there is often a setting called, “Pressure” or “seal.”
·         bring the cooker to pressure on high heat·         when the cooker has reached pressure, turn down the heat It is perfectly safe for you to ignore these instructions. These instructions are given so that the pressure of the stove top can be up to the required level. In the case of the electric pressure cooker, you have it is automatically done when you punch in the cooking time in the pressure cooker.
·         pressure cook for XYZ minutes This special way is mostly used to keep the pressure cooking time in control in case of the venting pressure cooker. The electric pressure cooker you have will not whistle so read more about how you can convert the whistles into cooking time.
·         release pressure To do so, please turn the valve of the lid for “release” or “open.”
·         pour water on the lid Never does this with your electric pressure cooker.
